CEMEX Given Commitment to Excellence Award
The National Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) recognized CEMEX, a Mexico-based leading cement manufacturer, for its Texas Ready-Mix facilities in Houston and Katy. Both facilities earned the annual Commitment to Excellence Award as they exceeded the government’s compliance measures and their performance showed a commitment to environmental excellence through resource and energy savings investment.
CEMEX is the largest manufacturer and distributor of cement and other building materials in the U.S. The company operates 52 aggregate facilities and 314 ready-mix plants in the United States, and has a total of 56 land and marine terminals and 12 cement plants.
According to NRMCA President Robert Garbini, “CEMEX has shown that the protection of the environment and cultivating good community relations is the responsibility of every employee.”
Companies must demonstrate the following to be considered for the association’s Commitment to Excellence Award: the plant appearance and representation in the community, and a remarkable performance in classified areas that include a perfect governmental compliance history regarding the environment.
CEMEX’s concern towards the environment has led to better conditions. Gilberto Perez, the company’s U.S. President, says they are dedicated to being “proactive with environmental management practices” and to working in partnership with communities. “Improving our environmental performance not only strengthens our company and our industry, but it is simply the right thing to do and the right way to run our business,” he said.
