Missional living is definitely a trendy title that is everywhere these days. The fact that we are required to compartmentalize church buildings, missional, has always been a little strange to me. come on, shouldnt all places of worship be missional in their very core? it should be expected from a church, at its very nature, yearn to meet their culture and neighborhood with the good news as a missionary would in a different country? Isnt what the churches is encouraged to do in the last challenge from Jesus in Matthew 28:19? Our own local area deserves this brand of church. Central Austin churches is slowly going to what Jesus instructed in the Gospels.

Christ gives the challenge in Acts 1:8 saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 exemplifies this topic as, right before Jesus Christ leaves to go to Heaven, He sends the disciples on a journey that would launch right in their individual community. He begins with their hometown of Jerusalem, and then stretches the call to the outer parts of the globe.

As disciples of Jesus, we are not urged to isolation, but to be missional followers of Jesus who are aggressively going out and meeting people right where they are with the good news. We have observed this throughout history: God moved Abraham on a mission to leave his city and his people and go to the place that God would show him (Gen. 12:1), God urges Moses on a story to rescue an enslaved people and lead them to joy (Exodus 3:8-10), God sends Jesus on a exploration to globe to bring back all things to Himself through the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:20). And now God is sending the church on a exploration to engage areas, cities, tribes, and even nations with the story of Christ(Matt. 28:19 Mark 6:7 Luke 10:1 John 20:21 Acts 1:8). If we abandon this call and continue to treat the places of worship like a members only country club ” requesting that people clean up their performance, pay their deposit, and drive to our church God will continue His story without us.
